My Mobile set

I also like to take a transceiver with me in the car when we go somewhere. In the time between departure and arrival, I listen to my favorite frequencies. Sometimes it leads to a short QSO, or I call out an activation if it happens to be online. When I’m going to call for an activation, I try to park the car somewhere in a parking lot first; here in the Netherlands, that’s not difficult. Small country with a parking space every few kilometers.

The President McKinley is a 40-channel CB radio with AM, FM, and SSB (USB/LSB) modulation modes, a 4 Watt output for AM/FM and 12 Watts for SSB, and operates on both 12V and 24V power supplies. Key features include a front-facing speaker, a 7-color display, adjustable squelch, a built-in SWR meter, and a VOX function. It has dimensions of 170 x 150 x 52 mm and weighs about 1.1 kg.

Because I’ve always worked on a truck, I had or have a transceiver for 24 and 12 volts, which is quite handy. I have several mobile antennas, but my favorite is my Wilson 1000. The Wilson 1000 27mc antenna is a real winner! This robust mobile antenna is the “little brother” of the Wilson 5000.

Well, little brother… the Wilson 1000 also has a large, high-quality coil and can handle a whopping 3000 watts! Wilson uses a silver-plated thick copper coil for this antenna, the best materials for minimal loss. The Wilson 1000 has a floating coil, specially designed to continue functioning perfectly even in the worst winter conditions.

For anyone who wants to know, I used this antenna when I was on vacation in Kenya and worked all continents with it, so it’s no wonder it’s my favorite for mobile use.
